Dr Ashok Kumar rejected the reconciliation efforts of the chairman and said that dissident members would ask the chairman Senate to go for voting again for the slot of the committee chairman. The chairman assured the members that he was ready to follow recommendations to be approved by the members with consensus to run the committee's affairs. He further agreed to resign but expressed utter displeasure the way he was asked to resign. "The way adopted to seek my resignation from the chairmanship of the committee has saddened me," he said.
Earlier, the committee met in the chair of Mian Muhammad Ateeq Shaikh. However, the committee could not take up important agenda items for discussion including National Aids Control Programme (NACP), implementation status of recommendations and directions regarding National Tuberculosis Control Programme, increase in price of insulin used by diabetes patients and non-availability of medico-legal officer in Pakistan Institute of Medical Science (PIMS), Islamabad. Previous meeting of the committee also could not take up the agenda because of differences and exchanges of hot words between the chairman and members committee.
